Nokoran sat by the gentle light of his emerald bonfire. It had been a few beats now and still no sign of the target. This monstrosity had been a nightmare to track. After such a long time tracking it, the grizzled warden wasn't much for the thrill of the hunt anymore. He would had preferred to get this done quickly, so he could return to his research back home. But of course, the settlement present in this region is far too important to be corrupted by the Shattered. The presence of even one of these creature here is a critical problem, for if there’s one, there maybe more.

A crackling of leaves not far behind startled him. Had he become the prey without noticing it? In an instant he summoned his Stillblade axe in his hand, immediately gorging if with Flow and readying himself for battle.

As his axe began to whisper an ethereal shimmering light, he approached the source of the sound. He raised his arm and reached for the bush. He was ready to strike.

He stopped midway trough his swing. The crackling had not been produced by the deformed monster he expected, but by a newly awakened wisp. The little serpentine creature looked as surprised as he was. Clearly this little one had just broken out of its shell.

"Hey there little fella, careful with making noise around here, you are in dangerous territory you know." He said to the translucent creature.

The small lifeform looked at him with curious eyes, then, in an instant, they turned to terror.

In a fraction of a breath, he turned to face the distorted thing. He swung his fully-charged axe at his foe but the creature evaded. As soon as it touched the ground, the leaking mass of what was once probably a peaceful beast charged at him.

The creature was too late. He had already raised his axe and sent all the Flow it was charged with in a powerful sharp wave of energy. The creature was instantly severed in half. The two parts were sent away from each other due to the sheer force of the wave of energy.

Once the kill was secured, he quickly turned his attention back to the wisp in the bush. The little creature had watched the whole thing.

He reached out to the small being. It approached, more curious than afraid it seemed. It softly wrapped itself around the Sarjai’s arm.

"You saved my life just there, even though you probably don't even understand it yet."

He paused to think, Nokoran watched the little wisp of newborn Flow. It would quickly wither away unless it anchored itself.

"Nobody came for you yet huh?" He asked. “That's very odd…” He almost waited an answer from his newfound encounter. He quickly remembered that the wisp could clearly not yet talk nor understand him very well probably. "Let me pay back what you just did for me little one."

He turned and approached the carcass of the creature that had attacked him. He bent and summoned his axe once more, this time he only chipped a piece of one of the creature's horn.

He held the shard in his palm, after a few moments, it began to float. He closed his eyes. Filaments of prismatic energy floated towards the horn fragment from the tip of his fingers. The air began to vibrate all around them. The little wisp watched with curiosity as the piece of terra matter was being deconstructed into scintillating Sands.

"Here, this should suffice. Approach the Sands little one, and make them yours." He said with a deep serenity in his voice. He didn’t want to scare away the little one after all.

The wisp approached, cautious, yet curious. It entered the mist of glowing sands. As it got closer, the Sands became attracted onto its ethereal body. As they were absorbed by the Flow of the wisp, the particles of matter morphed into a different substance, a soft opaque layer of crimson and yellow skin formed around the ethereal being. Little tufts of blue hairs appeared on its head.

Nokoran looked at the newborn with satisfaction. The birth of a new being was always a touching moment, even more so now that this was a much rarer occurrence since the Breach, people were scared to bring new life into this broken world.

"There you go, this should do until we find you a better vessel." He looked at the little wisp for a small moment, thinking.

Although this moment was positive, an intrusive thought kept coming back to him. How nobody had came for it. Could it be that its parent were…gone?

"In any case, now that the area is safe, you're welcome to stay here tonight if you want to stay warm by the fire."

As he said that, he grabbed a blanket sheet from his backpack and formed a small bed with it where the creature could rest.

The small one approached it, curious, it touched it, looked in the eyes of the old warden for a second. It felt safe for the first time and closed its eyes.
